Jorge “Panda” Mendoza, Program Director
Jorge “Panda” Mendoza was first introduced to R.M. Pyles Boys Camp as a young boy; when his father, a camp alumnus, shared stories and took him to visit the camp during the summer. Then, in the summer of 2007, Panda was selected to attend Pyles Camp as a camper. During his time with Pyles Camp, Panda has held various positions including group counselor, activity specialist, Lion Meadows Director and, most recently, Program Director.
Panda holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from the University of Redlands. While in school, Panda was involved with the university’s Outdoor Programs where he led a variety of hiking, backpacking, and camping trips. After graduation, Panda worked as an environmental specialist, where he conducted environmental monitoring and facilitated environmental education seminars before returning to Pyles Boys Camp to serve as Program Director. In this role, Panda oversees the year-round outreach program, lioneer and voyageer recruitment, and assists Bamm-Bamm with the management of camp.
Panda is an avid hiker and backpacker who believes strongly in the nurturing and restorative powers of outdoor recreation and a wilderness experience. When not wandering through the forests, Panda can be found participating in obstacle course races, rock climbing, or running with his dogs.
