Summer 2027: learn how selection and registration work. Start with the family guide
Get Involved

Our events fund a summer at camp.

Pyles' fundraising events would not be possible without the generous support of everyone who attends, sponsors, and volunteers.

Save the date

Kern County BBQ: 2027 details coming soon.

Each year, more than 3,000 guests join us for our signature fundraiser at Lake Ming, Bakersfield: a tri-tip dinner, a raffle with thousands of dollars in prizes, kid-friendly activities like a bounce house and face painting, and a chance to meet the campers and families the event supports.

Interested in sponsoring next year's event? Contact Brandie to learn about sponsorship levels, or check back here as the 2027 date is confirmed.

What your ticket supports: a contribution of $3,500 funds one camper's full session at camp plus a year of year-round mentoring.
More ways to be involved

Other events throughout the year.

Work parties

Alumni and volunteers help get camp ready each spring: painting, repairs, and general upkeep before the summer sessions begin.

Reunions

Alumni gather throughout the year to reconnect, mentor current staff, and share what the Pyles experience meant to them.

Backpacking trips

A 3-day, 2-night trip into the Golden Trout Wilderness for donors and community partners. Details below.

Executive Backpacking Trip

See the wilderness campers experience, firsthand.

We believe people grow the most when they step outside their comfort zone. This trip is designed to push you a little, and give you time to reflect while doing it, in the same Giant Sequoia National Monument and Golden Trout Wilderness terrain our campers hike every summer.

You'll spend the first and last night in a rustic cabin, with two nights sleeping outdoors during the 3-day trip. Trip guides are Pyles alumni with Wilderness First Aid and CPR training and years of experience in this specific wilderness. Pyles administrative staff and a nurse are also stationed at the main campsite for the duration.

Pyles provides the gear you'll need. No need to buy anything new. Just know that camp sits deep enough in the wilderness that there's no cell service; a radio phone is available for real emergencies, but not for routine check-ins.
